A new economic model for bands? 2 or 3 songs is just the beginning. Out of the millions of bands doing their thing, the easiest on the to do list might be to make good music. The hardest part is to learn the process of breaking through the noise.

Not many bands have the caliber brand to get their songs featured on a show like Gossip Girl. The economic model is still same. At the end of the day, only the best bands have the ability to breakthrough.

The focus of all of a bands investment – both monetary and time should be on branding and image i.e. if Kim Kardashian were release an album today, she would naturally get more exposure even though her music most likely would be of low quality

I must certainly agree with you that the Flaming Lips do put on one of the most "over the top" shows, but an experience that every music lover should attend.

I have to agree with Michael T in that most music is purchased because of an emotional connection, bands need to sell this connection.

Interesting post. I agree that music can very powerfully manipulate ones emotions and that people will purchase the music and merchandise to "hold on to" those emotions. There have been a lot of really interesting studies done on the effect music has on people, but I wonder if a study has ever been done that determines whether different genres of music cause fans to purchase more merchandise than others? An interesting thought..

Bart, you are almost right, just switch the two around. Music is purchased because of an emotional connection. Merchandize is bought to remember that connection. Bands can still sell music, it just has to be a direct connection. Eliminate the labels, eliminate the plastic CD's and sell the connection.

On Patronism.com, fans are for the first time ever directly connecting to their favorite musicians and paying for music again.

A good move for Austin Technology Incubator Company. Their commitment to help everyone in bringing the low power ventures of mobile technology to its data centers and servers is very much appreciated. They are doing good things and expect this company to succeed more in the years to come. Thus this issue of expensive bills of their energy consumption has been brought years ago and one company answer the call and come up with this solution.
