The Austin Business Journal reported that ATI-Alum RFMicron raised about $1.6 million in funding recently from five unnamed investors.
RFMicron, a two-time Emerging Technology Fund grant recipient, is a developer of next generation RFID Micro Chips and platforms for itemized tracking applications. RFMicron received $675,000 in ETF money in 2009 and $250,000 in 2008.
The company joined the Austin Technology Incubator in 2007 and graduated in July 2010.
RFMicron’s key advantages over the competitors are lower cost silicon, universal tags that can be used anywhere on any material, thin, flexible and lower cost metal, unclonable tags, and tag data is secure and accessible through authentication/authorization.
